Stopbullying.gov defines bullying as “unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time.” About 20% of students ages 12-18 experienced bullying in the US. Bullying impacts everyone negatively - those who are targeted for bullying, those who engage in bullying acts, and those who witness bullying (also known as bystanders.) Bullying is linked to negative outcomes including impacts on mental health, lower grades, substance abuse and suicide.
